The Lending Stitches Programme has been set up so that people can loan a used sewing machine for a period of time in order to continue sewing at home. The backbone to this programme is donations of older, unused sewing machines that we have been able to acquire, due mainly to an article in our local paper. All of these machines have a story with them - one of them was donated by a lady who has Parkinsons and can no longer sew so was happy to see her Singer go to a good home, two neighbours got together and "dual" donated their Singers - the stories could go on and on! But the generosity of these people is so heartfelt and will make a huge difference as we now have ten machines that are available for loan, free of charge, for those that need them.
In some cases, we actually allow you to keep the machines so that you can keep sewing! We would rather have the machines busy being used rather than sat on a shelf in the studio.
If you would like more information on the Lending Stitches programme or would like to take advantage of one our loaner machines, please e-mail maeri@themakeanddostudio.co.uk.
