When I was back in Vermont this past summer, I watched my Mom and Dad clear out their garden of all their different varities of tomatoes, dust off their Ball jars and unearth the various items needed to make quart jars of lovely fresh preserved tomatoes. When we were growing up, much of the month of September was devoted to some type of canning - tomatoes, beets, pickles (and more pickles!), green beans - the list goes on and on.
And only when I was back here in the UK, did it occur to me that this might be something that other people also want to learn how to do - it is a great way to use seasonable fruit and vegetables and with the holidays coming up. We have even added a few other great items that can be either kept as a secret in your shelves or given away as the ultimate in thoughtful gifts! And as I think it is important to source locally as much as possible, where possible all the fruit and vegetables are from my favourite local farmers shop - Moore Farm Shop.
In this workshop you will: make a Christmas Cranberry and Fig Chutney, preserve courgettes in a marinade and my favourite - make a General Fruit Liqueur*. We will also show you how to turn your item into a lovely gift by labelling them with flair and adding ribbon to finish it off.
*All items for the workshop are included in the cost except for the litre of alcohol (gin, vodka or rum) needed to produce your liqueur, which we ask that you bring on the night!
DATE: TBC - please check back or sign up for our newsletter which includes all new dates!
